Attractiveness & Chemistry
Although not your standard Hollywood hunk, John Cusack looks GOOOOOD (so say the ladies). Catherine Zeta Jones is of course People Magazine's sexiest gal, and Julia Roberts is generally America's favorite gal. Catherine looks as radiant as ever, and although Julia isn't supposed to be her sexiest she's still Julia. Julia sheds 60 pounds in this (semi) "ugly duckling turns into a beautiful swan" comedy of a Hollywood romance. The chemistry is there. It's not a stretch for any actor to fall for Julia... and we all know that Julia can fall for her leading man in a New York minute.
Story Line
We'll stay with the actor's first names, as a big part of the movie's charm is the use of star power. John is an actor that's separated from actor Catherine (they are America's Sweethearts). Catherine has left John for a Latino lover played by Hank Azaria. John and Catherine have to promote a movie together for a press junket. The public loves these two actors together. Unfortunately, the movie will only do well if the public believes that these two are back together. Time for some madcap hijinx. If nothing else, it's always fun to say "MADCAP HIJINX!!!"
Julia Roberts plays Catherine's tormented younger sister and personal assistant. She's recently lost 60 pounds and always had a crush on John. Billy Crystal provides most of the hijinx as the studio publicist promoting the movie and press junket. Christopher Walken steals a scene as the director of the movie about to be released.
If you've seen any of the thousands of ads for the movie, it may not be a big surprise what happens when John finally notices Julia. Duh-uhhhhh.
Nookie Factor
This romantic comedy is short on the nookie. Perhaps a bit too short for many of you fans out there. There is a cute scene with John and Julia in bed the morning after. The most passionate moment is courtesy of Hank and Catherine, yet it only lasts a moment.
It's a funny, entertaining movie, but you won't find anything hot or heavy (other than Julia).

America's Sweethearts hits the mark in the tradition of other Julia hits. It's got enough of an edge that it won't hurt your teeth. A solid first date movie or catch it on your own summer tour!
