Attractiveness & Chemistry
Cathy (Julianne Moore) and Frank (Dennis Quaid) Whitaker are not smoking up any screens here but there is some chemistry with Frank's lover and Cathy's potential lover. There is a great on-screen kiss between Frank and his lover late in the movie. Cathy and her "friend" Dennis (Raymond Deagan) make a lot of heat that we never get to cash in on in this movie.
This may not be the most romantic or sexy hot film out there but it is a great movie and crosses some great sexual boundaries. It's fun to watch Haynes jump over these boundaries and challenge the audience's discriminations.
Story Line
Cathy and Frank Whitaker appear to have a Hollywood perfect marriage, 2 kids, corporate job... etc. But the truth is that their lives are "Far from Heaven." It's a great story of how two people try to live their lives the way that society says they should but fail miserably.
Frank struggles with his own demons and finally gives in when he falls in love with another... (we won't give that away). And Cathy tries to hold it together while she falls in love with a black man, much to the dismay of her own social circles.
Nookie Factor
As we said above, there is one great on-screen kiss for Dennis, but only heat for Julianne and Raymond. You'll just have to use your imagination on this one... sometimes that's more fun!
